A celebrated Bollywood playback singer, live performer, lyricist, composer, and restaurateur, Rram has spent decades captivating audiences worldwide with his powerful voice, emotional expression, and deep connection with music.
Born in Kolkata, India, Rram grew up in an extraordinary musical environment. His father shared close friendships with legendary maestros including Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hangal, Krishna Hangal, and other great personalities of Indian classical music, many of whom frequently visited the Tasildar residence. The atmosphere was filled with rigorous riyaaz during the day and intimate mehfils in the evenings, where some of India’s finest musicians gathered to perform and exchange ideas. These experiences shaped Rram’s artistic foundation and lifelong devotion to music.
Rram received formal training in Hindustani Classical music under Late Smt. Reba Muhury, the renowned Thumri exponent and Music Director for Satyajit Ray’s acclaimed films Shatranj Ke Khilari and Joy Baba Felunath. He later refined his ghazal singing under the legendary Jagjit Singh, while also receiving guidance from Late Ustad Mansoor Hussain Khan and Sudhanshu Sen. His artistic development extended beyond music as he studied Urdu poetry and sher writing under celebrated poet Halim Sabir.
A turning point in Rram’s professional journey came when India’s iconic Pop Diva, Usha Uthup, recognized his exceptional talent and introduced him to the music industry. On July 2, 1988, she presented his debut concert, “Usha Uthup Presents Ramshankar Tasildar,” marking the beginning of a remarkable career. Today, internationally recognized as Rram Tasildar, he continues to celebrate the rich heritage of Indian music while embracing contemporary sounds.
Throughout his career, Rram has collaborated with some of India’s finest musicians and composers, including Deepak Pandit, Kishore Sodha, Manohari Singh, Sanjoy Das, Joy Sarkar, Som Chakraborty, Soumitra Chatterjee, and three-time Grammy Award-winning guitarist Santosh Chandran. As a Times Music artist, he has released original compositions with Times Music and T-Series and has contributed his voice to films, television productions, commercial jingles, and independent music projects.
Known for his versatility, Rram effortlessly brings alive the golden melodies of Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Mukesh, while also performing contemporary favorites by Arijit Singh, Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Kumar Sanu, Mika Singh, Vishal Dadlani, and many others. His dynamic stage presence has made him a sought-after performer for international festivals, corporate events, luxury hotels, cultural organizations, and charity galas.
Rram’s global performances have taken him across the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, Holland, and India. He has shared the stage with celebrated artists including Usha Uthup, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, K.K., Kailash Kher, Mika Singh, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Suresh Wadkar, and Sadhana Sargam. He has also had the distinction of performing alongside the legendary American vocal group, The Temptations.
Beyond music, Rram has achieved success as an entrepreneur and restaurateur. He is the owner of India Grill Express, the award-winning restaurant in Artesia, California, recognized for its authentic Indian cuisine, exceptional quality, and warm hospitality. His accomplishments in hospitality reflect the same passion and commitment to excellence that define his artistic career.
Deeply committed to humanitarian causes, Rram has supported organizations including Sahara, Sankara Eye Foundation USA, Hope in Life Foundation USA, Project Sunshine India, and St. Xavier’s College Kolkata through charitable performances and community initiatives.
His contributions to music have earned him prestigious honors, including the Winston “Spree” Simon Award for Music at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Hollywood and the USABF Best Male Singer Award.
