Sikhs participate in ‘Disabled Patriot Fund’ cause

sikhCHICAGO: A group of Chicago Sikh Americans participated in The Disabled Patriot Fund’s 2nd Annual fund raising dinner on November 1 Gibson’s Steak House in Chicago. More than 180 total donors attended.
The Disabled Patriot Fund (D.P.F.) is a volunteer charitable organization formed in 2004 by a group of area business people and local officials who came together because of a common interest – to help disabled American veterans who have fought in the War on Terrorism. Located in Orland Park, the funds raised are used to help those that have been injured in the “War on Terror.”

“Because of our mistaken Sikh identity, we are always trying to do things that capture the attention of the mainstream. It was a wonderful outreach on behalf of our Sikh community. Really speaking, we are just one American community,” said Rajinder Singh Mago.

“Men and women who are protecting our freedom are coming home with varying levels of disabilities and may receive minimal financial assistance from existing governmental agencies. We hope that you feel, as we do, that they deserve our support, “said Patrick McShane the President of D.P.F.
At this event several veterans were honored and a select few given grants of $5000 each.
