NEW YORK: Boutique PR firm, Neerja Public Relations, hosted a bowling event to raise money and toys for the nonprofit organization, Toys for Tots. The fundraiser which was held at Bowlmor Lanes in Times Square on December 9 raised nearly $2,000 worth of toys for children that were affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots is a program held each year during the months of October, November and December and aims to help less fortunate youngsters by giving them a new toy at Christmas. In support of the Toys for Toys program, specifically to help the children that were affected by Hurricane Sandy, Neerja Public Relations held a bowling event in New York City, along with an online ‘WishList” at ToysRUs.com. Bowlmor Lanes added their support by providing free shoe rental to each guest that brought a toy and donated 20% of all the money spent on bowling, food and drinks to the charity.
“I am amazed and overwhelmed by the support from our community for the toy drive. It’s such a wonderful feeling to give back this holiday season to those in need and I couldn’t be happier that our company was a part of such a charitable cause” says Neerja Patel, Founder of Neerja Public Relations.
The event was conceptualized and organized by Kanika Marwaha, Events Coordinator and Communications Specialist for Neerja Public Relations. Kanika holds a strong passion for assisting multiple non profits, including Sankara Eye Foundation.
Her inspiration for hosting the event developed watching the heart wrenching news coverage of Hurricane Sandy and the impact it had on young children. “It was exciting to see an event I envisioned yield such positive results. I’m already looking forward to doing it again next year!” says Kanika Marwaha.
Special guests included Comedian Anish Shah and Joya Dass, TV anchor at CNN and NY1. Photography was provided by Kashma Photography and TV coverage was done by TV Asia.
