CHICAGO: Indo American Center, a no-profit body serving the immigrant community in Chicago land, celebrated India’s Republic Day on January 24 with lot of enthusiasm.
Close to 175 guests and seniors attended the program that was elegantly emceed by Jashan Chhatlani. The event started with the singing of National Anthem by seniors followed by speeches eulogizing the importance and significance of India becoming a Republic.
The speakers were Naresh Shah, Probir Sen, Qudari Mohammad, Kirit Shah, Hamid Syed, Chimanlal Thakkor and Manganbhai Patel. Patriotic Bollywood songs rendered by local artists were quite enthralling.
Singers were Marudula Ben who sang jhanda uncha rahe hamara, Raj Kumari (aye mere pyare watan), Suresh Sukharia (sabarmati ke sant tune kar diya kamal), Sudha Baxi (26 January), Sabera Saiyed, Adam Osman, (mujay zindagi ka sahara ) Mariya Christian (mera India ) Mir Ali ( main bhaart ka rahne wala hu & dil diya hai jaan bhi dengey). The event concluded with a nice lunch.
