FREMONT: Erick Swalwell became Congressman for 15th California district after winning in the recent elections. He defeated long time incumbent Pete Stark by advocating choice of a representative more connected with constituents.
On February 2, there was an open house for his new district office in Pleasanton. On this occasion, he discussed his top legislative priorities and positions on immigration in an exclusive interview with Ritu Maheshwari of India Post.
Swalwell said that his top three priorities during first year of office are immigration, local business development and encouraging green technology development.
He is a strong proponent of comprehensive immigration reforms with a path that leads to citizenship. He said, “America is a nation built by immigrants and we should welcome hardworking individuals who are working hard in the country.” He also supports increase in H1 visa quota to allow right talent into the country for economic growth. He maintains that students who come here for higher studies should be welcomed to contribute to US economy and growth, rather being sent back. He supports making family visas easy. His office has a dedicated immigration representative, who can help constituents with any immigration related challenges they encounter. He stressed that we need to carry out immigration reforms while keeping safety as one of key considerations.
Swalwell stated that federal government can help a lot in local economy development and he will push for this contribution. Similarly green technology is key for future energy requirements and Bay area is hot bed of innovation in this area. He supports continued investment in the area.
The Congressman plans on continued involvement and contact with constituents and will be opening one more office in Hayward for people to be easily in touch with his office.
