DES PLAINES: Though it was nasty and rain mixed snowy weather, more than 110 members of United Senior Pariwar Chicago (USP) attended a monthly meeting on Sunday December 8 in Niles, a northwest suburb of Chicago, to pay tribute to late Nelson Mandela, a freedom fighter and a former President of South Africa.
The meeting started with a lamp lighting ceremony which was performed by older members of senior association Dahyabhai Patel, Mrs. Shantaben Patel, Harjivandas Patel, Jivrambhai Patel, Ramanlal A. Patel President, Hasmukhbhai Soni Treasurer and others. Kanubhai H. Patel also accompanied them.
Welcoming members and guests, S.C. Shah, the association Secretary, talked about Mandela’ sacrifices and urged members to continue with their activities in coming year. He thanked all for their sustained support.
Ramanlal Patel, President USP, outlined the activities being carried out by the association during the whole year and thanked the members for their support. He spoke about the life and work done by late Nelson Mandela and paid tribute to him. All members joined him in prayers.
Hasmukhbhai Soni, Treasurer USP, informed that the accounts for the year 2013 up to the month of November are ready in all respects and would be presented in the month of January 2014 in detail. Ramanlal Patel President, added all the books will be placed on the table for observation by members in January 2014 as has been done in past. He praised Satishbhai Patel CPA of Chicago for his pro bono services.
Birthdays of members for the month of December were celebrated and a birthday card was given by the President to all them on this occasion. A colorful Rasotsav program was organized with all the members and invited guest Mrs Ushaben Kamaria participating for about two hours. A delicious dinner was served at the end of this event and everyone enjoyed it.
The next meeting of the association to celebrate the festival of Christmas on a grand scale will be held on Sunday December 22 at 2 pm at the Kathy Hall, it was announced.
A grand musical program called Sugam Sangeet by the talented artists of SAREGAMA Orchestra Chicago will be held at this event. It was also announced that Mrs. Ushaben Kamaria as well as Rohitbhai Joshi President of Indian Community of Niles Township will sponsor food for this event. This program is strictly for senior association members as well as invited guests only.
The new members will have to fill out a membership form and have to pay prescribed yearly fees of $ 35 each. A couple has to fill out a single form and has to pay $ 70 in all for the year 2014.
