CHICAGO: Members of the American Sikh Community of Chicago will pay tribute to, “Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha” on Sunday May 31from 1 pm to 4 pm at Palatine Public Library located in Palatine, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
Bhai Sahib is known for the compilation of Mahan Kosh, Encyclopedia of Sikh Literature and will be remembered for generations to come. It took him 13 years and team of hundreds of people to complete it. Mahan Kosh has been translated into other languages. People involved in translating it into English told me that sometimes to translate one Punjabi word from Mahan Kosh takes days to find the right word.
He wrote many other books. Not only Sikhs but members of Indian community at large would do well to recognize Bhai Sahib’s contribution to the nation’s literature and culture. His sacrifice in freedom movement of India also deserves to be recognized.
Light snacks will be served at the function. Those who would like to participate in any way in this event , contact before May 24 Professor (Retd) Jagindar Singh Ramdev or Thakar Singh Basati at 847-736-6092.
