CHICAGO: Indian fusion dance troupe Aavegh will debut its latest production, “Tyaag,” on September 20 and 21 at Vittum Theatre in Chicago. ‘Tyaag’ in Sanskrit means “release”, “relinquish”, or “let go”
The program on Saturday will start at 6-30 pm while that on Sunday at 3 pm.
It will showcase a series of unique and moving performances taking audience members through the various emotions associated with “letting go” of things that one holds dear. “Tyaag” will bring together the different dance styles of Indian classical, Indian folk, ballet, modern, and contemporary dance to depict different experiences of releasing the past and moving forward. Each dance will be enhanced with original poetry authored by Aavegh members.
“The inspiration for this production came from the experiences of my family and friends. With so much hardship, suffering, and loss experienced daily, I was inspired by and wanted to focus on the strength of those around me to “let go”, stay positive, and move forward. Finding an organization like Rainbows for All Children that helps our youth to do just that, fit our mission perfectly and we are looking forward to supporting this great organization” says founder and director of Aavegh, Supna C. Jain.
Unique not only in its dance style, Aavegh also seeks to raise awareness and donations for non-profits with a mission tied to each production’s theme. Proceeds from “Tyaag” will benefit Rainbows for All Children, a nonprofit dedicated to providing support to children as they navigate grief and heal from loss, whether from death, divorce, deployment, or other trauma.
For the past 31 years, Rainbows has served over 3 million children in 16 different countries with peer support group programs and services addressing social and emotional well-being. The organization will utilize Aavegh’s donation to support its Chicago area services.
