FREMONT: The Fremont Festival of the Arts celebrated 30 years of fun in the Sun on August 3 and 4. It is the largest free street festival west of the Mississippi River with an attendance of over 385,000 and at least 650 artisans.
The festival was held along Paseo Padre Parkway, Capitol and Beacon avenues, as well as parts of State, Liberty and Hastings streets. The festival poured an average of 23,552 mugs of ice cold beer. The festival hosts a wide variety of activities and entertainment for the entire family; over 650 top-quality artisan booths delight the most discerning shoppers, music lovers enjoy continuous music featured on three stages, children are thrilled with the many games and activities found in “Kid City,” and Gourmet Marketplace offers gourmet specialties for the discerning cook.
Kid City is the place to be where kids of all ages enjoy various rides and attractions, including a giant slide, puppet shows, storytelling and jugglers. Whole Foods, which will soon be coming to Fremont’s downtown, had a cooking stage at the festival where culinary demonstrations were held every hour.
In addition to the vintners featured within the event, the Festival offers the exclusive Wine Garden, a shady retreat from the crowds with premium wines. “It’s a Fremont tradition,” Mayor Bill Harrison said. “And the festival is a great tool to draw people to downtown Fremont.”
“The festival is the largest in West Coast. Each year it gets bigger and better and with more ethnic group participation, it shows the diverse Fremont. The City is constantly seeking to show people where our downtown is and to show them what we have planned there in the future” Raj Salwan, City Council member, City of Fremont said.
Multi cultural Federation of Indo Americans of Northern California, FIA had a booth in the festival and kicked off the publicity for their own “Festival of India, 2013” , a gala event which would happen at the same place in two weeks time.
Fremont residents were eager to know about the Indian festival and are looking forward to the FIA event which is spread for two days with cultural programs, parade, trade booths, free health fair, etc.
