SCHAUMBURG: Gujarati Samaj Chicago organized a gala Diwali Dinner and Dazzling Bollywood Masti on Saturday November 10 at India House Banquet in Schaumburg, a north side suburb of Chicago. The evening was attended by 600 plus members and guests.
The evening started with social hour. The event was emceed by Manish Pandya. Diva lighting ceremony was performed by Chief Guest Harshit Patel from NY Life.
Addressing the gathering, current President Suryakant Patel observed, “Diwali marks the attainment of moksha or nirvana and signifies conquering of evil (symbolized by Ravan) by virtue (symbolized by Lord Ram.”)
Outlining the objectives of the Samaj, he said that “our goals are to encourage people to explore and learn about rich Gujarati culture.” He also dwelt on past events organized by Gujarati Samaj like Summer Picnic, Navratri, Masti with colorful dresses and beautiful music, and Mix and Mingle function for youth.
Dr. Jitendra Patel, President of GOPIO/Chicago was introduced by emcee Pandya. He also introduced Bollywood Masti Group on the stage.
Singer Sunny paid tribute to Rajesh Khanna singing ‘Aate Jaate Khub Surat Awara.’ Singer Alka started with ‘Kanto se Khinchke Ye Aanchal.’ Kalpesh sang songs like ‘Ho Gayi Main Matwari.” Collectively they sang many popular hits entertaining the audience.
Executive Committee for 2012 to 2013 comprises Suryakant Patel (President), Kamlesh Shah (Vice President), Jayesh Parikh (General Secretary), Bhavesh Shah (Joint Secretary), Deepen Modi (Treasurer), Sandip Shah (Joint Treasurer), Manish Pandya (Cultural Secretary), Open (Joint Cultural Secretary). Board Members are Ashok Shah, Payal Shah, Maulin Parikh, Vidha Dave, Daxesh Modi, Umang Shah and Past President Mukesh Shah.
