DALLAS, TX: McDonald, the World renowned fast food chain, hosted a Free Education Workshop Seminar for South Asian Middle and High School students and parents on Saturday November 9 at Richardson Civic Center in Richardson, TX. The event was co- hosted by the Southern News Group and the Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC).
This workshop was attended by several Asian students and parents to know more about the educational opportunities in various Universities in Texas State. Educational counselors from the Southern Methodist University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at Arlington and University of Houston answered several questions fielded by students and parents relating the admission process and financial aid opportunities.
Wes Waggoner, Dean of Admission/SMU and Lana Saveda, K-12 College Board Educational Manager were Keynote Speakers. Wea H. Lee, Chairman and CEO of Southern News Group and Prasad Thotakura, Coordinator of the Indian American Friendship Council were Special Guests.
Sujana Paluri, Director of Prism Academy and Sushmi Kosuri, Director of IAFC conducted Spelling Bee competitions to Senior (4th grade to 8th grade) and Junior Students (Kindergarten – 3rd grade).
Prasad Thotakura, Wea Lee and Sujana Paluri awarded cash prizes and certificates sponsored by McDonald Company to the following winners:
Junior Category winners: 1st place: Julia Duan 2nd place: Isabel Wang, 3rd place: Hrishikesh Srirangam.
Senior Category winners: 1st place: Vittal Komanduri, 2nd place: Amy Liu,3rd place: Tejasvini Tummuru
Prasad Thotakura, IAFC Coordinator thanked organizers Angela Chen, Sujana Paluri, Sushmi Kosuri, all students, parents and volunteers who helped to make the event a grand success.
