EVANSTON: It was a great day not only for Intra World Travel and Tours, an Evanston based Indian owned travel firm but also for the Indian community at large when the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and the City of Evanston took initiative in honoring the firm for its yeomen services to the City and the travel public at large for thirty long years.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was organized on January 29 at 1740 Ridge Avenue in Evanston with Elizabeth Tisdahl, Mayor of Evanston leading the celebration by cutting the ribbon. Present on the occasion were Executive Director of Evanston Chambers of Commerce Elaine Kemna-Irish, lead airliners-Cathay Pacific and Japan representatives, associates and well wishers of the company.
The company was the outcome of a great initiative by its founder Dial Gidwaney who brought huge travel experience with him working in a senior position with Air India. Hailing originally from undivided India, Gidwanis migrated to India during partition. Choithram Gidwani, Dial Gidwani’s uncle, was a confidante of Pundit Nehru and was also a Member of Indian Parliament.
Ajay Gidwani, the CEO of the company said that “this year Intra World Travels and Tours celebrates thirty years of service to the Evanston community, a landmark. We know the main reason for our continued success is you, our customers and the airlines we engage. All of you have come to expect and to rely on the professional advice and personal service we offer you. We thank you sincerely for your trust.”
In 1985 the founder of Intra World, Dial Gidwaney, brought 30 years of experience with an international airline to the start up and together with his two sons set out to make his firm best in class. In the intervening years the nature of the travel industry has altered in significant ways and personal travel advisors have struggled to stay afloat in a turbulent times of competition and technological changes.
Airlines themselves, pressured by costs since 9/11, have tended to favor online travel companies over consumer-friendly agencies. Rigorous cut-backs have deprived travelers of the benefits brought to them by agents whose direct communication and expert advice is delivered with a human touch.
“Intra World, a family-owned firm, has a carefully selected list it calls its ‘partner of airlines. These airline partners have consistently provided the high standard of service that is consistent with our philosophy and logo. New direction of Intra is to continue to serve the community with their travel requirements, the old fashioned way by giving quality service and continued advocacy on their behalf, when it comes to dealing with today’s airlines.”
“Because of the trust and confidence we have built over the years we are able to provide advocates for our clients in case of disagreements with our partner airlines,” added Ajay.
