CHICAGO: Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) spent her New Year’s Eve with service-minded Eighth District residents volunteering in their fight against global child hunger.
They assembled packages of nutritionally-enriched dry meals to be used by international charities and service organizations to feed starving, malnourished children for as long as 7 months per package.
The event was organized by national non-profit Feed My Starving Children, are attached.
“No child should ever go to sleep hungry or malnourished, and I am humbled to join so many selfless individuals spending their New Year’s Eve giving a little back and helping fight childhood hunger,” said Congresswoman Duckworth.
Most recently, the Congresswoman helped distribute turkey dinners in advance of Thanksgiving in November to less fortunate families at Schaumburg’s Church of the Holy Spirit Food Pantry.
Congresswoman Duckworth is a champion of volunteer and community service and has been a strong advocate for food security and anti-hunger initiatives. Her family relied on food stamps and school lunches to help get through a difficult period after her father lost his job.
