CHICAGO IL: Devotees at Hari Om Mandir , Medinah, a northwest suburb of Chicago, rang in the New Year, with “Akhand Ramayan Path” on Thursday, December 31 a with all the members of the Board, along with devotees, joining in a formal Pooja and other rituals performed by the Temple Priests.
At Midnight, 12 O’clock, a big group of devotees rang in the New Year 2016, amidst chanting of Prayers, Bhajans, Ram Dhun and ringing of bells. Devotees took turns in reading the Holy Book. At 11 am on Friday, January 1, the Ramayan Path was completed after 24 hours. People sang and danced with Joy to celebrate the auspicious start of the New Year.
The Mandir was beautifully decorated with flowers, lights, buntings, banners etc. to usher in a New Year of peace and prosperity.
A grand lunch was served by the Temple and people exchanged greetings, good wishes, embraced each other to seek blessings and prayed for the wellbeing of all mankind.
It was also a day of administrative activity. The two Boards – Executive Board (EB) and Board of Trustees (BOT) – that run the show all year round were introduced to the general congregation. It was time to honor and acknowledge the services of outgoing Members who have completed their term, and welcome aboard New Members, who will be taking charge and serving the community in 2016.
This year, Vipan Wadhera was introduced as the New President of the EB, who took charge from the outgoing President, Indrajit Sarkar. Similarly, Ayodhya Salwan, completed his term & handed over the charge to the New Chairman of the BOT, Satpal Salwan. Plaques were awarded to the outgoing Office Bearers: Ayodhia Salwan, Mohan Karamchandani, Amar Singla, Mrs. Nirmal Bagga, Sham Taxali, Indrajit Sarkar and Mrs. Usha Verma, for their services to the Temple and Community at large.
New Members – Mrs. Shubh Sharma, Jeetu Patel, Chandru Bhojwani, Upma Hardy and Krishan Tejpal were also introduced to the public and given a warm welcome.
Every first Saturday of the month, a Mata Ki Chowki is held in the HOM, where devotees sing bhajans/bhents in praise of Mata Vaishno Devi. This year, the Chowki was held in continuation of the New Year celebrations.
On Saturday, the 2nd of Jan, devotees again got together to seek blessings from Maa Durga. People in large numbers, gathered once again to make this a special occasion of fun, festivity and joy. May the New Year 2016 bring peace & prosperity for all!
