The Consulate General of India in Chicago, in collaboration with the Hindi Samanvay Samiti, hosted an event on February 1, 2025 to celebrate World Hindi Day. The event saw the participation of Hindi scholars, organizations, experts, school students, parents, and NRIs with an interest in the Hindi language. The program highlighted ongoing efforts to promote Hindi in schools and universities across Chicago and the Midwest region.

World Hindi DayConsul General Somnath Ghosh delivered the inaugural address, praising the dedication of Hindi faculty at various universities in the Midwest. He also commended the consistent contributions of organizations such as the Hindi Samanvay Samiti, the International Hindi Committee-Indiana Chapter, Balodyan, Hindi Club of Illinois, Hindi US-St. Louis Chapter, Hindi School of Wisconsin, Roots to Hindi, Sundar Kaand Parivar, Brahmcharya Hindi Vedic School, Bal Vihar-Chicago and others for their work in spreading the Hindi language. In addition, Mandi Theatre, Ekjut Theatre, and Dramatech have played an important role in promoting Hindi through their theatrical performances.

Panel speakers included among others Dr. Mithilesh Mishra, Director of Hindi and South Asian Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign who delivered the keynote address on “Artificial Intelligence for Hindi Teachers: A Modern Medium to Effectively Promote Hindi.” Dr. Syed Ekhteyar Ali from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor spoke on “Promotion of Hindi at the Universities of Michigan and Wisconsin, USA: My experience with students”, Mr. Rakesh Malhotra, Nodal Officer of the Hindi Coordination Committee, presented an insightful talk on “Promotion and Spread of Hindi in the United States: Analysis of Opportunities and Challenges”.

The event also featured enthusiastic participation from schoolchildren across Chicago, Indiana, and other regions, who performed Hindi songs, poems, and plays that celebrated Indian culture and literature, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
