CHICAGO: The Kadva Patidar Samaj (KPS) Chicago celebrated its annual picnic on July 22 at Carl R. Hansen woods, Cook county forest preserve in Hoffman Estates, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
Over 700 KPS members and guests participated in the picnic from 10 am to 6 pm. It had a well thought out program which was enjoyed by all.
The food team was prepared and was ready to accept challenges. There were fresh gota (Bhagia), Kadi (special Indian Chatni) prepared along with fried green peppers, tea, Athanu, fresh onion, more than 800 pieces of corn and cooling ice-cream.
The temperature was around 100 F. Ice-cream was a welcome relief at noon time. Throughout the day many Indian games such as Volley-ball, Kothda Dod, water balloons etc were played. Prizes were given to winning members. Indian food was served to all members and four lines were formed to serve over 700 members to avoid delay.
There was special Gujarati food such as Khichdi, vegetable Shaak, Indian popular sweet Mohan Thal, Bhakhri, Chhachh (butter-milk), and Athanu etc. There was lot of dedication and hard work by KPS Chicago executive committee members, trustees, advisory committee members and out of state guests behind the success of the picnic. They all gave their time to serve this one of the largest Indian organizations in Chicago area.
Some guests came from Georgia (Macon), Umiya Mataji Temple’s Rashikbhai Patel, Dasbhai Patel and Babubhai Patel (Ganpat University Kherva, India) and active members of Umiya Mataji Temple Unjha.
KPS president Narendra Patel thanked invited guest from various organizations like Gujarati Samaj’s President Suryakant Patel, Gujarati Cultural Association’s Kanti Patel, Manav Seva Mandir’s President Dahyabhai Prajapati, Mafatbhai Patel’s Patel Brothers, Bhartiya Senior Citizen of Chicago’s Manshukhbhai Patel and Jayanti Oza.
