CHICAGO: Global Gayatri Pariwar – Gayatri Shaktipeeth Chicago celebrated Gurupurnima on Saturday August 1 with over 300 devotees attending the festivities and performing the Gayatri Yagya.

The traditional 108 Kundi Yagya was performed by the Lake on a sunny day in Des Plaines and the atmosphere was charged with spirituality.

Dr Kusum Patel, one of the main organizers, talked about the importance of Guru in one’s life and went on to explain that without Guru – spiritual master – one cannot progress in the spiritual field. She said that in Ramayan, Lord Ram taught ardent devotee Sabri that devotion is of nine types: The first one being satsang and the second is to listen and read good scripture called katha shrvan. The third one is most important and it is Guruseva which means selfless service to the Guru’s lotus feet fully melting the ego.

“It looks like as though I am in India. The lake reminds me of River Ganges,” Swami Ishatmananda, spiritual guest of the event said. “We should not pray to God to seek benefits. It is not a trade, but the feeling should be spiritual,” he added.

Guru Purnima souvenir book “Jai Mahakal” was inaugurated by chief guest Mrs. Santosh Kumar and Swami Ishatmananda. She emphasized the need to stand united as otherwise “Divided We fall.”

Sunil Shah, President of FIA and a New York Life agent was an honored guest at the festival. Main Yajmans to perform yagya were Ambalalbhai and Kailashben Patel. Gaurangbhai and Tulsiben Patel.
