Business Club implements new project

India Post News Service
This year Lynbrook High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) has taken up a new chapter project called the Community Service Project (CSP). FBLA is a nationally recognized business club that helps students prepare for careers in business through various opportunities. The Community Service Project is one of the three chapter projects offered at Lynbrook. It encourages members to positively impact society while acquiring business knowledge.

Sophomore Bhagya Narayanan has been appointed to lead this project for the 2018-2019 school year. This year, Bhagya and the officer team has decided to work with Inclusive World, a non-profit organization that focuses around differently abled individuals. Inclusive World’s mission is for these differently abled individuals to be able to lead a productive life of acceptance and inclusion. They hold classes on different career interests ranging from programming to arts and crafts.

Project Inclusion is split into four subcommittees, Fundraising, Marketing, FBLA Workshop, and Bootstrap Robotics. Fundraising, led by Sanjana Neeli and Shreya Kalyanasundaram, has raised around $7,000 through a social media campaign known as Giving Tuesday. They have also set up Money Jars in stores all over the Bay Area, located by the cash register. Marketing, led by Katherine Cui and Mihika Rayan, has been working on various website enhancements and is creating a public relations video for Inclusive World. FBLA workshop, led by Vijaya Kukutla, Aayushi Jani, and Richa Malhotra, will be teaching the students at Inclusive World the fundamentals of visual presentation, product pricing, and accounting. Bootstrap Robotics, led by Shasta Narayanan and Pranav Raj, is developing a robotics curriculum focused around the mBot and will be teaching the students at Inclusive World.

Bhagya Narayanan is leading this program with energy “When I was given the position of the Community Service Project Lead, I took a step back to see what our society would benefit most from. Then, I realized that at Lynbrook, almost all students are given opportunities to participate in business clubs/activities, except for the differently abled students. This led me to get in contact with Inclusive World, help them achieve their goals, and spread their values to our community as a whole.
“Every minute my team and I spend working on this project has been very rewarding as we know that we are a step closer in empowering differently abled individuals and expanding their knowledge in various fields, including business.”
