NEW YORK: Members of the Indian National Overseas Congress (I), USA have made the India Day Parade in New York City all the more colorful with their strong participation marching under a banner saluting a democratic and secular India on its 65th anniversary of Independence. The marchers waved the tri-color flag of India along with the Congress and U.S. flags enthusiastically to the length of the parade route.
Thousands of people were lined up from 38th street all the way to 24th St responding to the ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ calls and waving their flags back to the marchers. The march was led by George Abraham, President of the Indian National Overseas Congress (I), USA, Mr. Shudh Prakash Singh , Senior Vice-President, Mohinder Sing Gilzian, Phuman Singh, Sawaran Singh, Rajender Dichipally, Prasad Kambhapaty, Srinivas Kaveti, Tayeb Poonawala, U.A. Naseer, Mohammed Islam, Girish Vaidya, Harbachan Singh, Jose George and many other leaders from the state and local chapters.
In a statement released by INOC (I),USA, George Abraham said, “INOC (I) salutes India on its 65th Anniversary of Independence and also pays tribute those who have sacrificed so much to gain the freedom and the dignity the people of India has come to enjoy. We are especially grateful to Indian National Congress which has led the way and secured the freedom and the individual liberty for all of us’. ‘Let us not take the freedom for granted. It is a duty of every person in India and in Diaspora to do the best possible to continue to keep aloft the torch of freedom and to preserve, promote and secure it for our future generations.”
