FREMONT, CA: AB1964, the Workplace Religious Freedom Act, was approved on August 27 by an overwhelming 32 to 4 vote in the California Senate. The bill now moves back to the California Assembly for a concurrence vote and the Governor’s desk during the next month.
If enacted, the bill will promote equal employment opportunity for all Californians, regardless of religion, and prevent job discrimination against Sikhs and other religious minorities.
The Sikh Coalition said it is grateful to the California Sikh community, multiple organizational partners, and numerous California legislators, especially Assembly Member Mariko Yamada and her staff, for moving this bill forward.
