BOSTON: Hundreds of devotees gathered on Saturday, 27 March evening at Shivalaya Temple of Greater Boston to immerse themselves in Holi festival prayers and colors.
Holi celebrations started with Holika Dahan, also known as Kama Dahan, in South India. Temple priest, Pandit Jayanarayana Badal along with devotees performed religious rituals in front of the bonfire and prayed that everyone’s internal evil should be destroyed as the bonfire starts.
Later, in the function hall, devotees of all ages celebrated the vibrant Holi festival by dancing, singing, and showering one another with bright colors to mark the triumph of good over evil and the end of winter. Everyone was drenched as a wide range of colors were smeared over each other as a mark of love and belongingness.
This colorful festival bridges the social gap and renews sweet relationships. Devotees were hugging and wishing each other ‘Happy Holi’. All had fun by throwing colors on each other, all done in a spirit of celebration. Holi is a very carefree festival which is great fun to participate.
Shree Balram and Mrs. Jayashree Chamaria put this event together. Participants were welcomed with variety of delicious snacks, Chai and cold drinks. Sunil Kumar’s DJ with melodious Holi songs made devotees enjoy color smearing on each other in full swing and have fun. Later, all devotees enjoyed special Holi lunch served by the Dosa Temple, vegetarian restaurant of Ashland.
Shri Balaram thanked temple president Vijay Kumar Sethi, Sudershan Sharma and the executive committee for providing the temple hall for the event.
He also thanked volunteers namely Victor Tharmalingam, Annaruby Vickneswaran, Sunil Kumar, Meeta Kumar, Dinesh Khandka, Jasbir Saini, Venugopal, Sheila, Gopi Sharma and Rupa Pandey who helped immensely to make this event a grand success.
