CHICAGO: Hindi Lovers Club of Illinois organized a colorful function to celebrate Republic Day, bringing a lot of patriotism among Indians, especially among those far away from India.

The event at India House in Schaumburg spread a lot of love and happiness among the community in Chicagoland. It could be easily seen as everyone was enjoying the program with a smile on their face.

The heart of the event was performances by children right from start to end. The Republic Day celebration began with a grand but cute march past by children as well as attendees carrying Indian flags and chanting patriotic slogans. Children were dressed as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The Parade was led by Vinita Gulubani, Secretary of Hindi Lovers Club and Praful Rami, Executive member of HLC, with a big tricolor in his hand.

Kamal Gupta welcomed everyone on behalf of Hindi Lovers Club and invited Ms. Vandana Jhingan of T.V. Asia who gave a very thought provoking speech about the importance of this event. Chief Guest Dr. Gopal Lalmalani, Mayor of Oakbrook, Guests of Honor Indian Consul N.J.Gangte, Rishikant Singh, Manager Air India – Midwest Region, Naren Patel CEO Med Star and Anil Pandya of MY life were invited by the Club President Gurbachan Kaur to light the lamp.

This was followed by the singing of national anthems of both the countries, India and USA. It was remarkable to see many big personalities from the State of Illinois to be present at this function which explains not only that Republic Day is important to Indians in US but also to the mainstream people of the society here.
Master of Ceremony Vinita Gulabani kept the crowd entertained with beautiful couplets. There were speeches from the Hindi Lovers Club board members and the chief guests. Dances from artists of Pika Munshi dance school and Vidya Balodyan were flawless as they danced on a variety of songs of all kind from patriotic to Bollywood.

Other children also did a great job of singing, dancing and acting.

A patriotic act by one of the performers, Master Laksh Patel got a standing ovation from everyone which brought tears in many people’s eyes and a huge round of applause. The event concluded with the quiz competition for children, judged by Vandana Jhingan and Subash Panday. The contest winners were rewarded with Kindles. The program kept everyone happy and people were glued till the very end. The DJ did a wonderful job and so also the staff of the Banquet hall.
Overall, Hindi Lovers club succeeded in the achieving the motto of Republic Day, that is “Unity in Diversity”.
