CHICAGO: Members of Indian community across USA mourn sudden death of one their young budding artists, Prashant Bhargava, who even in his early prime of life began carving out a name for himself by churning out great art-cum-commercially viable films.
Prashant, 42, a resident of Chicago died in New York, Friday May 18, while seeking to promote his third film ‘Radhe Radhe.’ His body was flown to Chicago and cremation took place at Slaughter and Son Funeral home on south side of Chicago in the presence of hundreds of his fans, family members, relatives and associates.
Prashant’s mother Ranjana Bhargava is also a front ranking community activist. Grieving for her son, she said, “He was a light taken early from us. We are still trying to make a sense of this loss.”
Gurbachan Kaur, founding president of Hindi Lovers’ Club, said that Prashant was a devout son, a visionary filmmaker and “we at the Club sorely grieve with her mother who happens to be an active Advisory member of our club.”
Bhargava family is planning a memorial service in coming months to fully honor his memory. He is survived by his mother Ranjana, father Vijay and younger sister Anurima.
Prashant was an artist deeply committed to revealing extraordinary in the ordinary. His films are anthems of the underground, his canvas the rambunctious, fascinating, changing globe, taking us to far flung places and revealing the harmony in all.
Born in 1973 and educated at Kenwood Academy, Prashant went on to study computer science at Cornell University and theatrical direction at the Barrow Group and in the Actors Studio, MFA Program.
