DALLAS, TX: Natyanjali Kuchipudi Dance School students and parents joined together on Sunday, October 14 at Cultural Hall of Karya Siddhhi Hanuman Temple, Frisco, TX for a Guru Smarana and to pay tribute to Padmabhushan Vempati China Satyam Master Garu as part of his 84th birthday celebrations.
The performance started with welcome by Smt Srilatha Suri, Artistic Director Natyanjali Kuchipudi Dance School. Young students recited basic slokas of Natya Shastra and a few fundamental steps. Intermediate level students performed few Jathis to Vedic chants. Later on, all students – juniors and seniors – joined to perform ‘Brahmanjali’ choreographed by Padmabhushan Vempati China Satyam Master Garu.
Chief guest Prasad Thotakura, TANA President, recalled the close association with Dr. Vempati Mastaru and hosting many dance ballets in Dallas. TANA awarded Life Time Achievement award to Dr. Vempati in Dallas in the year 2000. He announced that TANA is making arrangements to erect a life size bronze statue of Dr. Vempati in Kuchipudi village in December this year. Prasad congratulated Natyanjali School for coordinating these beautiful dance sequences to pay tribute to the great Master.
Rao Kalvala, NATA Regional Vice President also spoke on the occasion and thanked Srilatha Suri, the Director of Natyanjali Dance school and students for displaying beautiful dance performances in celebration of Guru Dr Vempati China Satyam’s birthday.
