CHICAGO: The Federation of Indian Association’s (FIA) Chicago, a leading Indian American umbrella organization of Illinois, elected its 2015/2016 executive board at its Annual Meeting at Waterford Banquets on November 29.
In the presence of several community leaders and members of different associations, Sunil Shah, the founding president, announced the following line up of officers approved unanimously.
Onkar Sangha, President; Mukesh Shah and Dhitu Bhagwakar, Executive Vice Presidents; Shital Daftari, Ravi Kapoor, Moon Khan, Neil Khot, Payal Shah, Vice Presidents; Shahid Rizvi, Secretary; Mona Bhalla, Joint Secretary; Surinder Singh Palia, Treasurer; Hitesh Gandhi, Joint Treasurer; and Manjit Singh Bhalla, Ninad Daftari, Ali Khan and Shalini Saxena; Directors.
While welcoming the new board members, Sunil Shah briefly outlined the hurdles and obstacles faced by this association from its inception, but observed that the tenacity of the executive team and supporters helped the organization to sail thru rough weather. The association now has reached greater new heights and received enormous appreciation from community members and government officials at all levels, he said.
He recognized the talents and abilities of new board members like Moon Khan, Payal Shah, Hitesh Gandhi, Mona Bhalla and Manjit Bhalla who are affiliated with different leading organizations of Chicago.
FIA has scheduled a colorful program to commemorate India’s 66th Republic Day Celebration at Meadows Club on January 24, 2015 (Saturday). There will be Beauty Pageant Contest and dazzling cultural events. This event would be followed by a workshop by the Indian consulate general’s office on immigration and passport issues. Blood donation drive, clothes and food collection for the homeless and other charitable programs are also planned.
President Onkar Sangha stressed on the need of team work and said that together we can make this association stronger and vibrant. Delicious pizza was served for lunch and sweets were distributed to celebrate the recent ring ceremony of Swapnil Shah, son of Sunil Shah.
