CHICAGO: With 600 plus devotees and guests in attendance, the fund raising event organized by Jalaram Mandir management recently at Meadows Club in Rolling Meadows turned out to be a grand success.
The Mandir management planned this event to raise the funds for its expansion and it succeeded by collecting a total of $130,000 – $80,000 in donations and the rest in loan pledges.
The chief guest of the event was no other than popular Mayor of Hoffman Estate Wiiliam D McLoed and the chief entertainer was the popular Geet and Ghazal singer from India, Manhar Udhas. Both enlivened the atmosphere – one with a positive and encouraging speech and his gracious presence and the other by churning out one after the other popular songs and ghazals spiced with requests from the audience.
The start of the near four-hour program was with traditional lamp lighting around 7.30 pm followed by a Ganesh prayer dance presented by the temple dance class artists. The culmination was with a tasteful dinner that was enjoyed by one and all. Kudos to the Jalaram Mandir management for organizing such a wonderful program.
According to Yogesh Thakkar, the Mandir was established in 2008 and its increasing popularity among devotees has put a tremendous pressure and constraint on its space. It is in this context that the management plans adding additional 4800 sq feet built-in space to the existing facility of 6400 sq feet. Besides the expansion, management plans installation of Idols as well. The temple has a parking facility for 100 plus cars and it will be expanded in the near future.
