ST LOUIS: Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Center (MGC) in St. Louis, Missouri hosted an ALS-fundraiser to spread awareness and support the fight against neurodegenerative disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/ ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on Sunday, November 4.
This ALS-fundraising dinner and live-entertainment program was attended by over 250 St. Louis residents of diverse ethnicities who came together to support this cause. Over $25,000 was raised by MGC and proceeds were donated to St. Louis local chapter of the ALS Association – supporting patient services, advocacy and cutting-edge ALS research.
Dan Gray of KPLR News 11/ KTVI Fox 2/ KMOX Radio was the master of ceremony for this event which started at 5:00pm with cocktails and opening of silent auctions. Renowned ALS researcher and neurologist, Dr. Timothy Miller of Washington University School of Medicine, gave an outstanding keynote speech at the event after introductory remarks by Dan Gray, Michael Alexander (Channel 4 photographer, who recently lost his brother to ALS), Katie McGovern (of ALS Association, St. Louis regional chapter) and Dr. Elly Barua Bhuyan (MGC) who spearheaded this effort.
A colorful cultural program of Indian folk dances was presented followed by live musical performance by well known entertainer Ms. Elizabeth LaKamp. Dinner for the event was supported by various local restaurants who generously provided food for this fund-raising dinner. Program ended at 8:30pm with live-auctions and vote of thanks by Dan Gray and Dr. Elly Barua Bhuyan.
