Chicago: Over 300 people gathered at the Shivalya Hindu Cultural Center (SHCC) on Saturday September 5 to celebrate the festival of Janmashtami.
SHCC was founded in August 2012 to provide a place of worship, celebration and learning for downtown Chicago Hindu community. It is located in the river north neighborhood of Chicago.
There were number of cultural activities like kids dances, songs, bhajans, kirtans, adult yoga and meditation, Krishna’s birth. Kids participated in Ganesha painting party with eco friendly pure clay. These Ganeshas will be used for ‘visarjan’ on Ganesh Chaturthi.
Lavish dinner and prasad was served and each kid took his/her own Ganesha home.
