CHICAGO: Hitesh Gandhi, a two term president of Gandhi Samaj, one the oldest organizations of Indian Americans in this part of the world, is set to take the Samaj to a new high by organizing various members oriented and community oriented events.
The Samaj has announced hosting Navratra Garba paying respect to Ma Durga on October 20 this year at Park Ridge on Dempster Street for members and their guests. Hitesh Gandhi in a talk to this paper said that the Samaj expects a huge participation this year as it will be with live band. There was a big response so far from all quarters including Sponsors and guests. Raas Garba and Dandiya will be by live by group of Rohit Parekh. “We have very good response from people and expecting 800-1000 people to attend”, he said.
Gandhi also mentioned that the Samaj will host a Diwali Milan with dinner on November 18 at Ashton Place in Downers Grove. This event is open to members only. In its effort to give boost to education and encourage students, the Samaj will recognize recent graduates. The Samaj will also recognize community members with Community Service Awards.
Gandhi Samaj of Chicago (GSC) was founded in 1984 by immigrants from South Gujarat part of India. GSC is a community of over 600 members living in Chicagoland and surrounding cities. Members are largely from South Gujarat (Surat, Mandvi, Navsari, Bilimora, Gandevi, Chikhli, Amalsad, Valsad and Vapi to name a few).
The objectives of GSC are to achieve and promote unity amongst members while helping the community to enhance cultural awareness via education, programs and through celebration of festivals such as Diwali and Navratri.
Activities include but are not limited to Annual Summer Picnic, Community Service Day, Food Donation drive, Navratri and Diwali Celebrations.
