NEW YORK: To bid farewell to Consul General Prabhu Dayal, the Indian National Overseas Congress (INOC) hosted a dinner reception for him at a newly opened restaurant called Amla in Manhattan.
The national executive body of INOC USA got together to honor the popular CG and various chapter presidents and council heads also joined in.
Bobby Kumar, Prem Bhandari and Gunjan Rastogi also graced the occasion as special invitees of INOC. One after the other, the speakers from every segment of the community, caste and religion spoke about the achievements of Mr. Dayal.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Prabhu Dayal said, “The Indian Diaspora should stay engaged with India and the strength of the community will only be truly realized when there is unity.”
He acknowledged that at times the new rules and regulations emanating from New Delhi might have created unease among some in the community and the Consulate had to mitigate and resolve the problems. However, he gave credit to the many leaders in the community taking initiative and working with the Indian authorities to resolve many issues. He urged the civic and community organizations to work together to achieve greater progress in dealing with new challenges and praised the INOC for its commitment to promote stronger cooperation and collaboration between India and U.S.
George Abraham, president of INOC thanked Mr Dayal for his dedication and diligent service to the community over the years and wished him well on his retirement. Shudh Jasuja, Senior Vice-President of INOC, praised Mr Dayal for his close working relationship with the Diaspora and stated that he has succeeded in reaching out to every segment of the community by the open door policy that he practiced.
Dr. Dayan Naik, newly appointed President of the Karnataka Chapter, sang the Rabindranath Tagore rendition of “Devi Bhuvana Mana Mohini.
Kalathil Varughese, Bobby Kumar, Rajender Dichpally, Anand Ahuja, Mohan Wanchoo, Girish Vaidya, Zach Thomas, Juned Qazi, Zinda Singh, Ravi Chopra, Mohinder Singh Gilzian, Anand Ahuja, Harbachan Singh, Phuman Singh, Sabinal Ali and Prasad Kambhampaty also spoke on the occasion.
INOC presented him Mr Dayal with a plaque praising him for his dedicated service to the Diaspora.
