PALATINE: Sikh Religious Society of Chicago (Palatine Gurdwara Sahib) is hosting an Interfaith Peace Conference, along with an Open House at their Gurdwara Sahib facilities in Palatine on Saturday, November 15 from 2 pm to 6 pm.
The topic for the Interfaith symposium is “Service: A Pathway to Peace”. The event is being held in collaboration with the World Sikh Council (WSC-AR) and Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions (CPWR) which is headquartered in Chicago.
Speakers from many faith communities including Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islamic, Jain, Jewish, Pagan, Sikh and Zoroastrian will present their perspectives based on the teachings of their faith on this topic. Altruistic, selfless Service (“Seva”) is an integral part of Sikh tenets that the Sikhs learn to practice since their early childhood.
“The Open House is to make other communities and neighbors aware of who we are and what we believe in, and to share the core message of our Sikh faith ‘Ek Pita Ekas ke ham Baarak’, and ‘Manas Ki Jaat sabh eke pehchanbo’,” said Mrs Jasbir Kaur Saluja, president of Sikh religious Society Palatine, IL.
The open house, fellowship and refreshments will be 2 pm to 3 pm in Langar Hall. The Interfaith Conference starts at 3 pm in the Congregation Hall, and Langar (vegetarian meal) starts at 6 pm in the Langar Hall.
The event is free and open to public with free parking. All are invited to join in this event. This invitation information can be extended to friends from other faiths and their families.
While within and around the Gurdwara premises, the visitors are required to cover their head, remove their shoes and not to have on their person tobacco or other intoxicants. Be prepared to sit on the carpeted floor, unless you are elderly or physically challenged, in which case bench seats may be provided.
