CHICAGO: Although not a part of India Day celebrations, the Kite Flying event that Indian Community of Niles Township (ICNT) has organized on Sunday August 10 at Laramie Park in Skokie (a suburb of Chicago) has sparked enough interest among members of Indian community in the area that many feel it could well be dubbed as part of near seven days of festivities organized by different organizations in Chicago land.
Rohi Joshi, president of the ICNT, said that his organization is already participating with others in India Day celebrations and hence, there was no need for “duplicating the efforts”. In that context, the Township members suggested holding a Picnic with a difference like “Kite Flying” – a popular festival in India.
He said that the Indian CG Dr Ausuf Sayeed along with many other dignitaries are invited to the event and “we expect them to grace the occasion with their presence.” The event has sparked great interest and Joshi has to pitch for early registration since the “quantity of Kite and Phirkees “is limited.
