CHICAGO: The Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association celebrated its 17th annual Christmas Celebration at St. Hubert’s Church Hall at Hoffman Estates, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
In Konkani language, it is popularly called as Nathal Fest, which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is celebrated by all Christians worldwide on December 25.
There was general Holy Eucharist, celebrated by Fr. Mike Scherchel, where the MKCA members and guests attended. The cultural program was initiated by the welcome note from the President of MKCA, Vissia D’Souza. In her welcome address, she introduced her Executive Committee to the audience and requested audience to come forward in organizing a new Executive Committee for the next two years. She thanked her committee, members and guests for their staunch support in the success of several annual programs
The past President of MKCA, Dr. Austin Prabhu asked the audience to come forward in forming a new executive committee. Members volunteered in forming an Executive Committee.
Following are the new executive committee members: Vice President – Lancy D’Souza; Secretary –Patcy Lasrado and Joint Secretary – Roopa Misquita.
The incoming President, John Dias in his acceptance remarks informed the audience that he will work hard in keeping up the Mangalorean culture through its unique programs.
The compeer of the program, Past President, Steven D’Souza conducted several group activities. Following were winners of the program: Novelty Ball winners (couple dance) Sal and Florine Rodrigues, Best Ethnic Dress winners: Roopa Misquita (female group) and Ethan Misquita (male group). Children’s Musical Chairs winners and Adult Musical Chairs with a Twist winners were also given prizes.
There was a duet dance performed by members of Soorya Dance Academy.
The members and children present sang Christmas Carols. The grand entry of Santa Claus (Dr. Austin Prabhu) during the Carol of Jingle Bells, thrilled the young children present. Santa Claus entertained the children present with Christmas gifts. The audience present took pictures with Santa.
The program culminated with sumptuous ethnic dinner. Under effective DJing by Queenie Mendonca, the audience enjoyed the dance to the tunes of Konkani, Hindi and Spanish songs.
