CHICAGO: The Indian Chancellery in Chicago has planned a grand celebration of Yoga on June 24 this year in Naperville (south west suburb of Chicago) and expectations are that it will be hugely better than the last two times. This will be the third International Yoga day which is being celebrated globally of late.
The event last year at Sandwich was a dismal failure with attendance dwindling to a few hundred against about two thousands in a previous year.
The celebration for this year was announced by CG Neeta Bhushan at a meet at the Indian Consulate last week. Some of the participating organizations were Brahma Kumaris Meditation Centre, Gayatri Gyan Mandir, Isha Foundation, Sahaja Yoga Meditation , Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, SEWA International, Science of Spirituality, Eye on India, Temple of Harmony, Balaji Temple, Shri Swaminarayan Mandir BAPS and Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago.
The Consulate sources expect the attendance should swell to 4000 to 5000 and efforts are afoot to reach out to mainstream Americans as well.
According to “2016 Yoga in America Study”, about 37 million Americans (which included many celebrities) now practice yoga. Yoga is also strongly correlated with having a positive self image.
