CHICAGO: The Kadva Patidar Samaj of Chicago (KPS) successfully hosted its annual summer picnic at Carl Hansen Woods at Cook County Forest Preserve, Hoffman Estates, a north side Chicago suburban July 14 with over 870 members, friends, and well wishers participating.
The picnic starting from 11 am and continuing till 7:30 pm was one of the most enjoyable events for all the participants. Volunteers arrived at the Carl Hansen Woods as early as 8:30 am and started preparation to serve the expected crowd of more than 800+ members.
The food team served donuts, chips, salsa, peanut butter and jelly, breads for kids. Guests were served over 1000 pieces of corns on two grills. Also, as usual, Indian traditional Fresh Gotta (Bhajiya) was cooked and adding to the taste on Gott was special Indian Kadi (Chatani) prepared along with fried green peppers and onions. To counter the scorching heat the water team served cool bottled water ice, and beverages.
Many famous Indian games such as cricket, volleyball, Kothra Daud, water balloons, musical chair were played. Prizes were given to winning individuals and teams. The Raffle tickets were also sold and the winners were given complimentary gifts.
A traditional Indian dinner was served to all members and guests that had vegetable pulav (rice), mixed vegetables, handmade mango pulp (russ), Puri, Rayta (butter-milk), Athanu (achar) and green peppers.
