CHICAGO: The South Asian Classical Music Society of Chicago completes its sixth season with a Sitar recital by Nayan Ghosh, recognized in India and on several continents as a premier instrumentalist in the Hindustani genre. He is accompanied by his 18-year-old son, Ishaan, who already regaled audiences at the Chicago World Music Festival with his brilliant playing the young age of 10.
The performance takes place at the Indian Boundary Park Cultural Center on June 16 at Chicago, 60645. Admission is free but a $20 donation is suggested. Free, on-street parking is available nearby.
Pandit Nayan Ghosh brilliantly represents the Etawah School of Sitar, having gained the blessings and imprimatur of the late master, Ustad Vilayat Khan. Ghosh is also renowned as singularly adept on tabla as well as sitar, fully representing the famed Farrukhabad Gharana on that instrument. He is also an important figure in music education in India, drawing students from around India and abroad to the institution he heads, Sangit Mahabharati, which was founded by his father, the late Nikhil Ghosh.
The South Asian Classical Music Society is now completing its sixth season, presenting the finest in traveling and local Hindustani and Carnatic performers. For more information contact Lyon Leifer at 224-565-7010 or email lyonleifer@mac.com.
