CHICAGO: An exclusive gathering of 100 elite Democrats from Chicago land area was held on Friday October 9 at Holiday Inn, Skokie, Illinois, to support the Democratic National Congressional Committee.
This event was held under DNCCC with the support of Balvinder Singh Dr Mehboob Kapadia, Iftekhar Shareef, Chairman FIA-Chicago, and Vinesh Virani. The Chief Guest of the event was Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi who is also US House floor leader and former Speaker of US.
Ms Pelosi, who is considered an extremely powerful and influential person in the Democratic party, praised the strong rising relationship between USA and India. Pelosi emphasized that President Barack Obama needs to be re-elected for another term in White House with a thumping majority. She urged all Indian-Americans to do everything possible to ensure the Democrats get back control in US Congress.
Earlier Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky introduced all the Congressional candidates from Illinois including Brad Schnieder, Bill Foster and others. Jan requested everyone to go out and vote and mobilize voters and get ready for the coming elections next month. She praised the leadership role played by Indian-American community leaders in organizing the event and hoped the Democrats would win all the seats in Illinois.
Balvinder Singh praised the leadership of Barack Obama and urged all to vote in Democrats to the US Congress. Nancy Pelosi acknowledged the help of Indian Democrats and Balvinder Singh in their efforts to mobilize support for Democratic candidates. Singh presented a shawl to Nancy Pelosi on behalf of the Indian American community in Chicagoland.
Iftekhar Shareef said it was very important for the U.S house to have a full Democratic majority so that agendas pushed by the Obama Administration get passed the House easily.
Shareef praised Ms. Nancy Pelosi’s leadership role in the Democratic Party and DNCCC. He also honored the former House Speaker with a traditional Indian shawl and Kandwa and wished her good luck for the Democratic Party to win most of the seats around the country and re-gain control of US House.
Vinesh Virani proposed a vote of thanks and in a talk to this paper exuded confidence that Illinois would stand solidly behind the Democratic leadership.
