FREMONT, CA: Ro Khanna, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce and candidate for California’s 17th congressional district, has issued the following statement on Leader Pelosi’s new Women’s Workplace Rights Initiative:
“I am very encouraged to see Leader Pelosi and several other House members take the lead today in promoting an “Economic Agenda for Women in Families”, which will better advocate for women and families in this country. Their work casts much needed light on three of the most important issues facing women in our country today: equal pay for equal work, work-family balance, and adequate funding for childcare.
“The agenda is part of a larger framework that promotes the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, and champions paid sick leave, paid parental leave, and Obama’s proposal for greater preschool and childcare subsidies and tax credits.
“These sorts of reforms are long overdue, and as a member of Congress I will be proactive in modernizing the workplace and ensuring that women are protected equally under the law.”
Since announcing his campaign for Congress in early April, Ro Khanna has received key endorsements from Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, local elected leaders including Mayor Orrin Mahoney of Cupertino and Mayor Estevez of Milpitas, and some of the leading job creators and innovation luminaries in Silicon Valley.
Ro for Congress is focused on building a technology and grassroots driven 21st century campaign that utilizes and improves upon the best practices deployed by both Obama campaigns. A longtime Bay Area resident, Ro returned to Fremont after a two-year stint serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce in the Obama Administration.
In addition to running for Congress in California’s 17th District, he is also currently a Silicon Valley technology lawyer, visiting lecturer in economics at Stanford University and adjunct professor of law at Santa Clara University. Ro’s book on manufacturing, Entrepreneurial Nation: Why Manufacturing is Still Key to America’s Future, has won widespread praise for its strategies for keeping the best companies, jobs and opportunities in America.
