FREMONT, CA: Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF) organized its first ever Holi festival at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, California, on Saturday March 26. Holi, also known as the festival of colors, is a spring festival observed in the Indian subcontinent and the Indian diaspora all over the world.
Almost 3,000 people attended the sold out event which was filled with color, food, music, dance and cultural performances. The raffle drawings and the kid’s activities added to the fun and excitement.
There was something for everyone, no matter the age group. The event started at 11 am and by noon, the grounds were filled with laughter of families swaying to the music while throwing Holi color on each other. It was a festive scene with color and happiness all around while the DJ played Holi songs, as well as other happy and spirit-lifting tunes to keep the crowd dancing.
During the brief music break, Murali Krishnamurthy, the founder and Executive Chairperson of Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF), welcomed the guests and announced that the money raised from the event would support hospital projects underway in Indore, Jaipur and Hyderabad and future hospital projects in other parts of India. He encouraged the guests to join and support SEF in eradicating curable blindness from India.
The volunteers, notably the ones from the East Bay chapter of SEF, not only managed the flow of the participants entering the fairgrounds courteously and efficiently, but also ran the operations smoothly inside the venue, and helped the participants enjoy the event with their families and friends.
Everyone seemed to be in great mood, having fun and embracing the spirit of Holi with great enthusiasm. It was an amazingly gratifying experience for the volunteers to see families having fun while helping SEF get closer to its noble cause of “Vision 20/20 by the year 2020”.
Within just a few weeks of this Holi event, Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF) is organizing a multi-city Bollywood live concert series with the magnificent trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, featuring Siddharth Mahadevan. In San Jose, this fabulous show will be held on April 29.
