Sikh religious society participates in july 4th parade

This annual parade, watched by local dignitaries and Palatine officials, had about eighty entries and was organized by the Palatine Jaycees. More than fifty Sikh American members men, women and children from Palatine Gurudwara marched with a colorfully decorated float, and distributing cold water bottles to the spectators on a sunny hot day along the parade route. Thousands of local resident families and children lined up alongside the parade route to cheer the parade, while enjoying a holiday on a beautiful day. Punjabi Dhol (drum) was played live, people loved it and clapped to the drum beats. Rajinder Singh Mago entertained the crowds with Bhangra dance moves along the parade route inspiring the spectators to clap on the Dhol beats. Many of them actually got excited and joined him in the dance moves in a celebration mood and for fun.

Palatine is home to Sikh Religious Society Gurdwara. The S.R.S. participation in the Palatine parade was coordinated by Rajinder Singh Mago and many other volunteers.

The parade ended near the “Hometown Fest” at community park where a weekend long festival of food booths, arts and crafts, entertainment, shopping, Carnival with rides and fun filled activities for all was in full swing. The purpose of the parade is to celebrate the 4th of July Independence day, and also proudly display our culture.
