ST LOUIS: Telugu Association of St. Louis (TAS) celebrated “Sakhi” – an exclusive event for women for the first time in its history. The purpose of the event was to provide a fun filled and informative environment to all Telugu and non-Telugu women in St. Louis.
The highlights of the event were cooking and fruit/vegetable carving Competitions, talent show, expert discussion on women’s health, emotional health and positive attitude. The attendees also enjoyed fun filled games along with the shopping of ethnic collection of clothes and jewelry from many different exhibitors.
Rama Vaddi, Smitha Anand, Vandana Kolluru and Rama Devi Thandrasatyanarayana were among the winners in the cooking and carving competitions. Sneha Dullapally, Madhuri Tirumalasetty, Swapna Vadhi & group and Himabindu Paladugu & group entertained the audience with their dance and song performances.
The audience felt enlightened listening to the speeches of Dr Sandhya Yanamanda a gynecologist on women’s health; Dr Jyothika Manepalli a psychiatrist on emotional health and Rukimini Chilakamarri on positive attitude.
A very well decorated and festive ambience was created by many volunteers who helped with stage decoration and event logistics.
TAS cultural secretary Lahari Dasyam and TAS the event organizer could pull off the event successfully with the help of volunteers like Archana Upamaka, Nisha Maguluru, Sahiti Aluri, Bhargavi Katta and many more.
TAS plans to make Sakhi an annual event based on the response received.
