FREMONT: Over the past two decades, California has been at the forefront of development in all aspects of life. It is well known for its high tech innovations and its genetic research. It is also a leader in community development. One such sign of growth is women in politics. Starting with State Senator Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, there has been an increasing awareness and interest among women to enter the political arena.
In the upcoming November 2012 elections, there are many women contestants vying to get into political positions. The Iocal Fremont political field is no exception. Three of the ladies in the fray this year are Anu Natarajan for Mayor of Fremont, Teresa D. Cox for the Board of Ohlone College and Reshma Karpineni for the Fremont School Board. They all have been active in the local community for a long time and have exciting ideas on development in Fremont.
Talking about women in politics, Dr Romesh Japra, Chairman and Convener of the Federation of Indo-Americans, said that Fremont has been at the forefront of growth and is home to the most tech start-ups in the nation. “It is very encouraging to see more women in politics. It bodes well for the development of our community and we should support their candidature whole heartedly,” he added.
Local Bay Area entrepreneur Rahul Roy echoed similar thoughts. He said that the empowerment of women has progressed and women from our local community have come forward to participate in politics. He wished them best of luck in the upcoming elections and hoped they make a difference to the community.
