The Indian Cultural Association of Antelope Valley (ICAAV) celebrated Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, with an evening brimming with music, joy, and delectable cuisine on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
The festivities unfolded at the Solomon Aghai Banquet Hall & Event Center in Lancaster, CA, drawing an attendance of approximately 200 people. Beyond marking one of India’s major festivals, often considered a new year in certain regions, the event served as a recognition of the significant positive impact the Indian community has had on all facets of life in the Antelope Valley.
Commencing at 6:30 pm, the event began with an introduction of Mayor Pro Tem, Ms. Andrea Alarcón of Palmdale, by Maj. Gurjeet Singh. Ms. Alarcón conveyed complimentary thoughts and presented certificates of recognition to the ICAAV and community members for their noteworthy contributions to commercial and social life in the Antelope Valley.
Dr. Pradeep Damle, past president of ICAAV, and Mr. Raj Nangia, the current president, provided brief introductory remarks on ongoing activities and upcoming plans. This was followed by invocatory prayers led by members of the Antelope Valley chapter of Balavihar, an organization associated with the Chinmaya Mission, dedicated to providing cultural education to children through engaging weekly activities.
The highlight of the evening was an enchanting musical performance by Mr. Charenjeet Singh (CJ) and his troupe of artists. They captivated the audience with lively and danceable numbers, earning applause and appreciation. Sanjay Sayal of DJ Scorpio kept the guests entertained, while Sunny of AudioTech Event Technologies mesmerized the audience with his unique equipment. Mayor Pro Tem enthusiastically joined in, dancing to several of the songs.
Appetizers and dinner were catered by “Taj of India” from Canoga Park, with desserts provided by “Sugary Delights.” An onsite bar added to the festivities, and a raffle draw featured exciting prizes from local businesses. The celebration extended well into the night, with happy smiles adorning adults and children alike, dressed in bright and colorful costumes. The last few revelers bid farewell to the hall after 11:30 pm.
