CHICAGO: Diwali is one of the most popular festivals for Indians around the world. For the Gandhi Samaj of Chicago, it was the 34th annual historical Diwali festival celebration for the Samaj. It held a well trimmed program at Ashton Place in Willow Brook on November 18 with more than 600 members along with their families, guests and friends attending the event.
Several Executive boards and past president of Gandhi Samaj also attended the event which was for Gandhi Samaj members and by invitation only. Samaj President Hitesh Gandhi led the celebration with Sunil Shah as the Chief Guest. Guest of Honor was Anil Loomba and Chairperson Amit Jhingran.
Hitesh Gandhi said “We have been celebrating Diwali festival celebration for the past 34 years and the purpose of this organization is to bring all friends and family living in Chicagoland closer together and provide them one platform.” He welcomed the sponsors, guests, choreographers, supporters, participants and volunteers saying “this program can’t be held without your support.”
The program began with the traditional lighting ceremony and a recital prayer followed by the American & Indian National Anthems. The Masters of ceremonies were Tejal Gandhi and Tushar Modi.
During the celebrations there were Classical and Bollywood and traditional dance performances and songs. Several famous singers, including Mrs. Mona Bhalla, rendered hit songs liked by the audience.
Several community achievers received awards among whom were Anil Loomba, Sunil Shah, Gurmeet Singh Dhalwan, Amit Jhingran and Presidents award to Ashwin Bodalia. A few others were recognized for their community services and contribution to the community. Educational awards were given to Ankur Bhagat, Ashish Gandhi and Ashwin Bodalia for their achievements in education.
The Historical event would not have been possible without the contribution by Sunil Shah, Tushar Modi, Dharmesh Gandhi, Jay Gandhi, Tejal Gandhi, Kalpana Gandhi, Dimple Gandhi, Pravin Gandhi, Annie Gandhi, Radhika Gandhi, Krina Gandhi and others.
Dimple Gandhi proposed a vote of thanks for all sponsors, supporters and volunteers for their help. At the end delicious food was served to all.
