LAS VEGAS, NV: What is more exciting than one pretty woman in Las Vegas? It is seventy gorgeous women heading to Vegas for a girls’ weekend! And this is what seventy Sakhis from the Maheshwari Mahasabha of North America (MMNA) chose to do over the September 15 weekend. Several Sakhi leaders spent countless evenings painstakingly planning and organizing the minutest details to make this one of the most memorable reunions for the Sakhis coming from all over US and Canada.
The weekend started with a bang when Sakhis looking like queens and princesses in their sparkly outfits descended at the Canonita’s to savor sumptuous Mexican cuisine in a Venetian setting. A trip to Vegas would not be complete without watching a show and nothing more magnificent than the Mystere by Cirque du Soleil.
Sakhis were so inspired by the flexibility of the artists that they started Saturday morning with yoga at the gym. After a sumptuous brunch at the Wynn Resort, sakhis let their hair down on the pool side of Treasure Island. Vacationers of all colors and ages were dancing inside and outside the pool to desi tunes in a flash mob that has likely been posted on many social media handles. The dancing, of course, did not end there! Heads turned when sakhis, dressed in neons, stepped out of limos, for an evening of dancing, singing, laughing and of course, posing for countless pictures.
How does partying late into the night and waking up to breakfast in bed sound? The planners, indeed, missed no opportunity to pamper the sakhis! After a lazy Sunday morning, sakhis headed for a super fun treasure hunt that had them doing ghoomar and garbha on the sidewalks of Vegas.
The sakhis proved that when competitive spirits rein, there is no refrain! The weekend was capped with dosas for lunch and ice cream at the Venetian! And of course, we weren’t going home without making innumerable reels! Vacations are always fun, but girls’ weekends top the list.
The sparkle on all the sakhis’ faces was evidence of the fun they had over the weekend. After all the fanfare, the farewells were heart-warming and proof of friendships that were strengthened and new ones that were formed. Promising to meet again, sakhis headed back to their families with bags full of beautiful memories, and of course their innumerable outfits and accessories!
