NJ Hindu Temple gets preliminary approval

balaji temple site-webNEW JERSEY: The Township of Monroe Planning Board in Middlesex County of New Jersey has given its preliminary approval to the setting up of a huge Om Sri Balaji temple in a 22.6 acres area, it is learnt
The temple is proposed to be built in two phases after meeting the conditions set in the approval. The first phase would include a two story, 10,174-square-foot “side temple,” as well as parking for 170 cars, a stormwater basin and 14-foot landscaping berms on the western and northern edges of the property.

Following the site’s connection to the township’s sewer system, the second phase would encompass the bulk of the construction, including the main Om Sri Balaji Temple, a 12,179-square-foot structure, and a six-unit, 7,596-square-foot parsonage building. Additional parking would be added to total 280 spaces. It would be open seven-days a week besides celebrating various festivals.

At the peak usage, the temple would conservatively host 50 worshippers during the weekdays and 83 on the weekends. The temple would have a maximum occupancy of 780 people. On each of the four annual festivals observed by Hindus, the temple would likely see 600 worshippers attend over the course of the day.

Incorporated in 1838, prominent people associated with Monroe include football players Antonio Pierce, Lance Schulters and Randy Beverly. Richard Pucci, Gerald W. Tamburro and Wayne Hamilton are Mayor, Council President and Business Administrator respectively of Township of Monroe.

Rajan Zed, President of Universal Society of Hinduism, commended efforts of Center leaders and area community for efforts towards realizing this Hindu temple complex. He said that it was important to pass on Hindu spirituality concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society and hoped that this upcoming Center would help in this direction.
