LODI, CA: Congressional candidate Ricky Gill (R-Lodi) is in a statistical dead heat with incumbent Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton), according to a poll of likely voters conducted between July 24 and 26.
Conducted by the Tarrance Group, the poll of 402 likely registered voters finds Gill earning 45 percent of the vote and McNerney earning 47 percent, while 9 percent of voters are undecided. The poll has a margin of error of 4.9 percent.
Significantly, the poll finds Gill in a dead heat with McNerney despite his disadvantage in name identification. Among voters who know both candidates, Gill captures more than 50 percent of the vote and leads McNerney by double digits.
Mcnerney voter fraud examined
The Stockton Record has reported that incumbent Congressman Jerry McNerney may have violated state elections law by voting in Stockton while actually living in his longtime hometown of Pleasanton.
Following a lengthy investigation, Record columnist Michael Fitzgerald concluded that “[t]he evidence suggests McNerney doesn’t live in the Stockton home” he has rented since May of this year.
According to the Record, a wide range of evidence supports the conclusion that McNerney continues to live in the Bay Area, including property and tax records, vehicle registration, and neighbors’ and reporters’ observations of his home. Despite his continuing residency in Pleasanton, McNerney registered to vote in Stockton and voted there in the June primary election.
McNerney’s opponent, San Joaquin County native Ricky Gill, issued the following statement in response to McNerney’s apparent violation of state law:
“Jerry McNerney’s false residency claim is just one more insult to the people of Stockton and San Joaquin County, where I was born and raised. We deserve better than an outsourced Congressman who believes he is above the law.”
Noting that McNerney’s actions fly in the face of recent, citizen-centered reforms in California elections, Gill consultant James Fisfis added the following:
“Ten years ago, Sacramento politicians gave Stockton ‘the finger’ when it came to redistricting. Now Jerry McNerney is taking a turn. “Voter fraud is a serious matter. This case needs to be investigated thoroughly to give voters confidence that the same rules apply to everyone – even politicians like Jerry McNerney.”
