CHICAGO: Vishwa Hindu Parishad of Chicago organized prayer session on July 31 mourning the death of the 11th former President of India, Dr Abdul Kalam at Gayatri Gyan Mandir in Itasca.
Closet to 100 community activists, members and leaders attended the meet which started with recitation of Shloka by Hindu Temple Priest Sri Narsimhacharay.
Sara Rananathan paid homage to Dr. Abdul Kamal playing Veena (Sitar) and singing an ever popular Bharan ‘Ragu Pati Ragav Raja Ram.’
Harshit Patel acted as MC and did a good job. O.P. Meena, Consul from Indian Consulate of Chicago, touched upon the life of Dr Kalam and expressed his deepest condolences on behalf of the Indian Consulate of Chicago and Indian community to the family of Dr Kalam and Indians at large globally.
Dr Abdul Kalam, he mentioned was a scientist and well known as the Missile Man. He came from a middle class family working hard during his student days. Dr Kalam worked out space cooperation with NASA during a 1962 visit to the USA. Dr Kalam’s humility and dedication to the country was unparalleled and was an inspiration to millions of Indian students and Indians around the world.
Imam Mohammad Vahidullah Khan, Masjid Al Huddah of Schaumberg, prayed for the soul of Dr Kalam in Arabic language. Gayatri Gyan Mandir Priest Hashmukh Patel paid tribute with Gayatri Mantra.
Vandana Jhingan from TV Asia, Hina Trivedi, Iftekhar Sharif, Prahlad Patil, Shamkant Sheth, Nirav Patel, Jdigvenkar and Ajit Gandhi were all there.
Gandhi said that the loss of Dr Kalam would be irreparable since he was the embodiment of secularism that the Indian nation stood for and stands even now. In a way, the loss is not only for Indians but for all the communities across the world.
