ST LOUIS: BalVihar of St. Louis is back in action with active engagement in and around Greater St. Louis Community. On October 28, 2022, Bal Vihar partnered with St. Louis Arts Museum (SLAM) for “SLAM Underground: Vibrant” program.

The event celebrated Indian culture and its connection to the exhibition Global Threads: The Art and Fashion of Indian Chintz. There was a lot of excitement about an in-person event where visitors could immerse themselves in the Indian culture and experience activities such as wearing Sari, exposure to myths, legends and histories of the textiles of India, learning Dandiya dance (dancing rhythmically with sticks), embellish with Henna like body art.

Bal Vihar organized and managed a sari station in Grigg Gallery, an interactive Dandiya dance demonstration in the Farrell Auditorium, and a Mehndi (Henna) activity in the classrooms. Large number of visitors lined up at Sari Station to wear saris and took selfies with their beautiful sari dresses. Likewise, a lot of participants got Mehndi in their palms. One could see the enthusiasm and curiosity of the visitors to learn about a different culture and experience some aspects for themselves.
