CHICAGO: The holiday season has always been a time to give back to the communities for MedStar and the tough economic times notwithstanding, the company kept up its tradition of munificence this year too.

Medstar Laboratory picks up different Non Profit Organizations, and its staff members including CEO Naren Patel and Vice-Presidents Neal and Raj Patel attend these events. “I feel a great joy seeing sparkle in the eyes of children when they receive Christmas presents with their names on them,” Naren Patel told this paper.

This year Medstar Laboratory partnered with Father Pflager and St. Sabina Church in Englewood, Mayor Larry Dominick and the Town of Cicero and Dr. Aliaga in the Little Village neighborhood. St. Sabina Church and Father Pflager, known for helping reduce the violence in the Englewood neighborhood, have an annual Christmas dinner in which they celebrate with the youth who help stay off the streets, and their families.

On Wednesday, December 19, Medstar Laboratory sponsored the dinner and offered 90 families a turkey and groceries so they can prepare a Christmas meal for their families. They also gave individually wrapped gifts to each and every one of the 110 children in attendance.

Many of these children were not going to have any gifts to open this year and were overjoyed to receive these gifts. Medstar Laboratory staff members said they felt the love and gratitude from all and were touched by the children performing a musical dance.

On December 20, Medstar Laboratory visited the Little Village neighborhood in which Dr. Aliaga, a family doctor who has been practicing there for many years, was able to provide Medstar with the names of 20 single mothers whose husbands had run off and left them to fend for their children on their own. Women who have told Dr. Aliaga they can barely even feed their children.

For these 20 women also, Medstar provided a turkey and groceries for their holiday dinner and brought 47 gifts for their children, who were not going to have a holiday at all this year. The kids were so appreciative and happy. It was a heartwarming sight.

Finally, on December 17, Mayor Larry Dominick and the town of Cicero provided Medstar with the names of 20 families who have been hit hard by the economy and who have one or both parents out of work. For these families, Medstar provided hams and groceries for their Christmas dinner and a gift for all 57 children. The families were very thankful for the help.

This is something that Medstar strives to do every holiday season, to be of help in the communities they serve, and give back a little each time.
